This limited series of lily paintings reflects on the grace and gentleness of the flower, offering moments of stillness in a fast-paced world. While lilies float with serenity and elegance in water, here their presence is heightened by the play of light, shadow, and colour, petals caught between reflection and depth. The paintings celebrate not just the lilies themselves but the fleeting beauty of their shifting forms.
The main substrate is French plantation birch, planted around 1960, previously part of a makeshift punt hire sign for Trinity College, Cambridge, and before that a pack case for specialist wine from Bordeaux. Collaged pieces include Scots Pine (c.1850) and aged pine salvaged from a windmill grain hopper in Lincolnshire, their layered histories grounding the delicacy of the painted lilies.
